3) Calculate how many working days are lost in a three-month period for each department based
on the above figures.
Working days lost
EXAMPLE OF ANALYSIS OF DATA5
Research and Design
Working days lost = 1876/24 = 78.17
Administration = 237/24 =9.875
Marketing =20/24 = 0.833
4) Estimate the projected average loss of working days over a 12-month period if these rates were
to continue.
Annual loos of working days
R & D =7.817 x 4 = 31.268
Administration =9.875 x 4 = 39.5
Marketing = 0.833 x 4 = 3.33
5) Calculate the costs of pay assuming all absentees are contractually paid full remuneration
whilst off sick during the three-month period. (1.4)
Costs of pay
R & D = (37.5 x 35×12) – (1876 x35) = $ 9,184
Administration = (37.5 x 35 x12) – (237 x12.5) $ 12, 787.5
Marketing = (37.5 x 35.12) – ( 20 x 28) = $ 15,190
