Interprofessional education allows a diversity of fields come together and share their
expertise in solving issues in a deeper and more well-rounded manner. This article
provides 3 best practice frameworks for interprofessional education. Read through the
article and take a minute to think about how these frameworks can include the field of
dental hygiene and how we could play a vital part in improving patient care with help
from a diversity of expertise that may lie outside of just dental hygiene.

Respond in the discussion post with the following:
1) Review table 4: University of Washington IPE competencies
2) Identify at least 2 groups in addition to dental hygiene that could participate in your
interprofessional coalition for health promotion.
3) Select 1 of the competencies listed from table 4, and how it is supported or can be
supported by each of your chosen interprofessional groups.
4) Provide a paragraph describing a type of activity or event you could develop with
your interprofessional groups?
5). Read through your classmate’s posts and add an additional group that could further
help to support their event/activity.

Respects the roles and approaches to clinical and social problems of one’s own
and other disciplines
Consults with others when outside his/her personal or professional expertise
Collaborates effectively with others to assess, plan, provide, and review care that
optimizes health outcomes for patients
Collaborates effectively with other health professionals in a variety of venues and
practice settings
Raises issues or concerns that may jeopardize patient outcomes with other team
members
Demonstrates consensus building and appropriate negotiation/conflict
management skills in resolving issues and concerns
Fulfills roles as either a designated or situational team leader
Assists in identifying and overcoming barriers to interprofessional collaboration
