Select a topic to study on Probation or Parole (you can use bold or italicized words in your text to help you decide what you are interested in). Each of you will find two articles related to your topic. As long as you present the data (from these articles) and get across the sociological importance of the articles in relation to your topic on Probation or parole, you will be in good shape.

Remember, one article MUST be sociological, primary or secondary research (not a review, blog, or opinion!), and from a refereed journal (one does not have to be a sociology journal, but article MUST approach the problem SOCIOLOGICALLY). Articles in JSTOR when the sociology tab is checked and which are not reviews, book reports, etc., fit the bill for the sociology journal article. The other article can be from any law journal or one of the sources below. This part of your term paper should be more than three pages double spaced in a normal college font.

When reviewing articles for your paper, include the following:

1. What was the focus, purpose and/or goal of the study?

2. What methodology was used by the author in studying the topic? (Logical analysis? Survey? Participant Observation? Observation? Interview? Deconstruction? etc.) What did the researcher(s) do?

3. Were the data or findings significant statistically and does it really makes a contribution to understanding?

4. What paradigm was used in the research?

5. What theory/ies is/are the author/s presenting?

6. What are the salient points made (i.e., what sticks out as important)?

7. In your Discussion also answer ?How does this research relate to what you read in text or got from class discussion, videos or lecture.?
