Since this is a biography essay, here is information about me that should be used for the essay.
My mom was born in the Philippines and my dad was born in Pakistan. He came here when he was a kid because his mom and father wanted to bring him and his 9 siblings yo a country with more opportunities. My dad and his family grew up very poor and struggled when they came to America. It was when his whole family worked for the newspaper and kept switching jobs that they started to become stable. My dad now works for SF General hospital and has been for the last 10 years and is a medical assistant. He did not go to any proper schooling though and barley had any sort of education in India. My dad met my mom on a trip to the Philippines.
My mom was born and grew up in the Philippines. Her mom passed away when she was two. My mom and her brother and father grew up poor and lived on the street. Coming from another third world country she did not know much English and was going to school in the Philippines for nursing. When she met my dad and eventually became pregnant with me she came from the Philippines to the US (specifically San Francisco with my father) to find more opportunities for nursing as well as to raise me with my father here for a more stable life.
We lived in one room for about ten years of my life and struggled. We would try to sleep and stay at my dads siblings place, but there was 10 of them in a two story house. When my mom got a higher degree of LVN to an RN which is a registered nurse, we moved and lived and continue to live in an apartment.
I grew up taking the bus and living and sleeping in a car. My parents were barley home and always working so it was hard to raise myself alone when it came to things that I needed emotionally and knowledge jade besides basic shelter. I was thankful and proud as we went from poor to middle class and now have come a long way. Once my dad got a higher position as medicos position in SF General Hospital, we were able to have good insurance like private Kaiser and more benefits because of his job.
Now we still live in an apartments and have fairly nice cars, but they continue to work so hard to try to survive living in the bay area .The bay area continues to be very pricey and makes it hard. I am one of the first generations in my family to attend college and do well in athletics as well as have academic scholarships. I am also transgender (FTM) and am a person of mixed race . I am talked down and looked down upon because of my race and my image as well as transphobic discrimination to this day. However, I work 6 days a week and help my parents pay off our cars as well as the leftover of my tuition. We still work and do our best to save money due to the circumstance that the bay area and gas prices as well as basic living has hit today. I am now 20 years old as well and a sophomore in college.
