I am ??? a ???. student. Yoga was not something I have ever encounter in my live. It was a taboo to do in my community because of some religious believes. Yet, I was really interested in the yoga especially the health benefit that yoga brings. I have tried to do couple at home, but I have commitment issue and I did hart my knee and shoulder multiple times which lead me to stop immediately. I figure sighing up to yoga class will solve both problem! And I was more than right.
In this essay I will first talk about the new information and movement I learned in yoga and how I did implant them and my feedback on them. Second, I will talk about my experience in general in yoga and during class and what the changes I have notes in myself and body.
In the course content the instructor has provide us with ” Mental Stillness ? 5 Minute Meditation” video. It is 5-minute-long video that help with achieving mental silence. In this video it shows us some minor movement with the hand but focuses in the breathing and mental situation. When I tried it at first, it was in the morning which I figure It is perfect timing for mediation, however, it did not help me much. I eventually figured that the sentences we should repeat during the medication did not speak to me due to cultural and language differences. When I tried it again, I have changed some words and I said them in my native langue, this help me a lot and felt like it finally touched my sole. This experience allowed me to reach the conclusion that yes the yoga is for everyone but each person have their own way to practice it to reach the maximum level of benefit.
In the article ” This Is How the Planes of Movement Can Help You Identify Imbalances in Your Body” that was written by Annie Carpenter in 2018. Where it talks about increase the understanding of body movement to increase strength and to avoid injury. I was personally really interested in reading this article because as mentioned previously I have injured my knee and shoulder before while practicing yoga. Which indicates that I was doing some of the posture wrong that rather than helping mee it start to harm me.
In the article it first talked about how correctly the posture doing will ground you and help with balance. At the beginning the article talked about Sagittal Plane of Movement, which I have recognize doing in class. It describes it as a sagittal plane movement. Another poses this article talks about is Downward-Facing Dog Pose, which we contently doing it in class. They demonstration movement in the picture which assure me that I am doing it correctly since I have the same pose. The demonstration of the pose inspired me to work more in my ankle area to make it more flexible and closer to the ground. I also discovered Revolved Triangle Pose which in the article they explained how to do it correctly. It was my first-time doing this pose and I have demonstrated it and I defiantly feel the rotating in my entire spine. At the end this article enlightened me that each person does practice yoga differently, but it has to be in correct way to receive the benefits of yoga and to avoid injures.
I have lightly done yoga when covid hit, I needed to exercise but away from people and do not take me very long because I had school, so yoga was the perfect fit until I harmed my knee and shoulder. My shoulder is completely fine currently however my knee still hurts from time to time. Which lead me to stop doing yoga until I join this class. The first week and half on joining this class and practicing yoga were not very helpful for me mentally. Due to the fact I was just traying to catch up with the instructor movement. However, I start to feel the benefit of the yoga starting week 3 when I get use to most posture we do during class. I was eventually able to focuses on my breathing and control it during practice. Focusing on my breathing and in my posture helped me to be more grounded to earth. As mentioned above I am an engineering student and I am in my junior year. I am taking advance engineering classes right know which defiantly increase my stress anxiety and make my live fast peace, however, yoga help me to take a break from everything and focuses in my body instead and forgetting about my life peoples and challenges.
I mostly touched the benefit of the yoga when I received really low grade in one of my classes but I had yoga class after it. Art first I was not in the mode for any physical practice, little did I know that yoga will actually change my mood, increase myself esteem and make me focuses in the bigger picture rather than the small pieces for the first time I truly understand the last statement we say in every class ” everything will be are right” because this statement meant a lot to me that day.
Yoga did not only help me mentally but also physically. I like excessing but I lack commitment but yoga gave me the window to increase my fitness yet force me to commit two days a week. At the beginning of the class, I had hard time following the instructor lead. My body was not responding to me it. In addition, for the first two weeks my body was sore in different places. But now I can easily follow the instructor lead because my body became more flexible and responsive.
At the end, yoga was a blessing that have entered my live due to the mental and physical benefits that did provide me and will continue to, the more I learned about it.
