he name of the company is Health Fake-it Corporation. They are a healthcare company with over 30 hospitals in operation. They employ 50,000 employees. They serve the public concerning their healthcare needs and choices.
The company is moving the data center from the East Richmond building to the West Richmond building, because the lease is about to expire within 6 months. The two buildings are only a few miles apart. The West Richmond building square footage is much bigger, which allows for growth of the data center.
During the move, they would like to upgrade the current network and correct any security flaw within the infrastructure. The migration must be seamless with zero business interruption. The capital budget for this project cannot exceed 3 million dollars. The following details provide a brief overview in developing the network design.
The data in the center supports the hospitals, 24 hours a day. Any downtime to their production systems and applications will impact business operations and patient care. From the data processing view, the move includes 5 large UPS, 6 RS/6000 AIX application servers, 15 virtualized servers, and 30 PC servers.
The network consists of approximately 30 remote locations connected via frame relay (with ISDN backup) to 20 routers at the data center running a common LAN shared by the whole organization. The hospitals operations run WLANs that are on their own subnet. You will have a T1 link and ISDN as backup. Network managers need to monitor the status of the remote systems. The SNMP management system must be able to detect and report failures of the remote system or its communications link and the status of individual applications.
