In each response, review your classmate's resources and some of the ideas they shared in their post, then respond with your own thoughts in a meaningful manner.

Methodology: How are you going to obtain your data?

I'm going to send out the questionnaire to my neighbors, family members, and friends and ask whether they wish to participate in my Optimism project. The age of the participants is going to be 50 years and above. Materials for the project include The Life Orientation Test (LOT) – Revised, which is used to assess optimism versus pessimism (Carver et al. 2010), printed materials, emails, and phone calls.

What are some key points that you grabbed from the scholarly and non-scholarly resources?

The scholarly resource mainly references scientific studies, and the primary purpose of it is to share with other scholars the results of research and experiments. The names of experts of the study are usually present, and the specific section headings highlight its context. The study shows that pessimistic people are at greater risk for depression, anxiety, and somatic disorders, while optimistic people suffer less from mental health issues. Many studies have found that optimism serves as a protective shell to maintain physical and mental health and develop coping mechanisms during stressful situations. The paper suggests that people with low levels of optimism have worse quality of life than optimists, and their recovery after illness tends to be poorer (Conversano et al., 2010). On the other hand, the non-scholarly article focuses more on entertaining the reader; it is easier to read and comprehend information. It is set out in a story format, with anecdotes from other people. It says that women are more stress-resistant and optimistic about their lives. As proof, the author told a story of women with different life situations and how to stay optimistic, such as social interactions, shopping, etc. (Sheehy, 2011).

As per assignment instructions, you need to include ONE additional resource in your paper. Share your thoughts, in this discussion board, about such an additional resource that you found.

I understood that the first two resources should be the two provided articles, and the textbook could be our third additional resource. To support or refute my findings, I will look for a study or peer-reviewed article about a possible correlation between optimism and health status or age.

Hello,

1). Methodology: How are you going to obtain your data?

I plan to pass out the questionnares out to family, friends and coworkers. I also plan to hand out the questionnares to 15 women and 15 men. Hopefully I can get enough responces back. I also might considers handing out a little more that the amount needed just in case there are some people that are not able to respond back. I will be able to hand the information out by email or phone which includes text.

2). What are some key points that you grabbed from the scholarly and non-scholarly resource?

Upon research 25% of women ages 45 to 55 gives themselves a 10/10 optimism on their future. Women have sense of engagement and meaning. Only 17% of men in the same age group hsve the same sunny side attitude about their present and furture lives. (Sheehy,2011). In an agreement women do seem more thriving and engaging then men in a lifetime.

My mother whose in her mid to late fifties. Went through many challenges in her life. She always embedded into me and my brother to live life to the fullest and try to remain happy as much as you can. My father on the other hand is complety different, he see things different, he looks at life to just to remain safe, work to pay bills, and survive. There is evidence that optimistic people present a highly quality of life compare to those with low levels optimisms or even pessimists. (Conversion, 2010)
