The primary goal of this paper is for you to demonstrate your ability to develop and defend a position of your own.
With this goal in mind, explain what you believe to be a good and necessary approach, philosophy, and/or practice
toward educating African American students in secondary educational settings. You will need to support your
position with relevant scholarly sources.

To be successful, you will need to do the following:

1. Decide on a specific focus for your paper
a. Consider focusing your paper on one of the major subject areas we have discussed in this course
2. Clearly state your position (thesis statement)
3. Support your position by developing clear and logical claims
a. Include major scholars and relevant scholarly research on this subject
4. Explain and partially refute at least one objection to your position

Please cite at least four (4) scholarly sources throughout your paper
a. All sources must be relevant to your topic

Format Requirements :
Your final essay must be 6 ? 8 pages in length (not including the Works Cited page) and in proper MLA format.

Important Due Dates:
The first draft of your essay (the research topic) is due on Tuesday, April 19. For this draft, introduce your
subject and a working thesis statement. Briefly outline at least four ways that you plan to support your thesis.
Demonstrate some support for each claim. This draft should be at least 1? pages in length. Bring a copy of your
draft to class.

The final draft of your essay is due on Tuesday, May 10. Upload a copy of your final draft to Beachboard prior to
