Case Study:
The school principal
called in a report of sexual abuse of Jayne (7) and Jeannette (6) by their
brother John (12). There are other children in the home: Julie (5) and Jason
(3). This home has a mother and a stepfather. Jayne reports her brother has
been humping her and Jeannette. Reportedly, he “doesn’t mess” with
Julie, as she has significant medical problems and is on dialysis daily. Mother
reports that last summer she walked in on John touching his privates while
rubbing the naked butt of a sleeping Jayne. Mother and father report they
whipped him for this and he promised not to do it again. Mother had no further
concerns of sexual abuse until Julie informed her at bedtime that John has been
humping “the big girls.” Mother talked with the school principal
who told mother she would call in a report of abuse to the CPS hotline. Mother
stated she was keeping the children safe by making John sleep on her bedroom
floor pending the assessment/investigation.
Jayne, Jeannette, and
Julie all reported that “John has been humping us.” The social worker
(SW) asked what humping meant. Jayne showed the worker by getting on her hands
and knees on the bed and started to move her hips back and forth. SW asked who
was on the bed. And they responded, “all the girls.” Who was moving
back and forth? “John. He does nasty stuff to us all the time in our
bedroom, his bedroom, our mother’s bedroom. He was just humping Jayne while you
were downstairs talking to our mom!” SW asked for clarification and they
reported that while this SW was talking in the kitchen, John was upstairs and
called for Jayne to come in his room. He then took off his clothes, her
clothes, and began humping her. The girls report that he takes off their
“pants and panties, takes off his own pants and underwear and puts his
meat in our cookies.” Jeannette states that he has put his fingers in her
“crotch to see if it is wet.” He has also licked her butt. Sometimes
he tells them to put their hands on the wall (police style) and will try to
hump them like that. They report he has asked them to “suck his meat”
but they have refused. Jayne later disclosed that even though she says no, he
puts his hand on the back of her head and forces her to “suck his meat
with my mouth.” They were able to describe the difference in male/female
parts and they reported that their brother had “hair on his meat.”
They report that he comes in during the night but also during the day to hump
them. They report that it ends when “chocolate milk or applesauce comes
out of his meat. It will come on our butt and sometimes he makes us get a rag
and clean up his meat.” They report their mother knew about the first
incident of abuse (over the summer) but deny that they have told her about the
other instances until this current report was called in.
Initially John denied
humping his sisters past the first incident last summer. He eventually stated
that he did “hump” his sisters Jayne and Julie. He admits that he was
attempting to hump Jayne while the social worker was in the home (in the kitchen
speaking with mother that same night). He stated he had her pants down and was
humping her “but did not finish” as he “did not want to get in
trouble with the lady” (social worker). He admits that he has ejaculated
on them on at least one occasion. He states that it “feels good” but
that he wanted to stop. He stated that he would do it in different rooms,
including the living room behind the couch while mother was making dinner, in
his bedroom, the girls bedroom, and mothers bedroom. He admits that he would
pull down their pants and panties and then pull down his pants/underwear to
hump them. He states it happened on multiple occasions.
This social worker
wanted mother to hear what the girls had reported. The girls again were very
forthcoming and told mother about the humping, the undressing, the positioning,
the statements made during the humping and finally, how John was humping Jayne
with worker present in the home. Mother was tearful and believed the girls. She
agreed with worker that another placement had to be made for her son. Mother
made arrangements for him to stay with a close family friend and then with
relatives. He was to have NO contact with the minor children. Jason and Julie
report that no one has tried to touch their private areas. Mother denies seeing
any acting-out behaviors in her children.
While John was in his
out-of-home placement, another referral was received. This referral alleges
neglect of the girls by mother. Allegations: mother was allowing John back into
the home. It was learned that the initial placement mother had made for
John had fallen through and she allowed him to move back into the home. He
eventually went to live with the paternal aunt. While the parents denied that
he was in the home for the night, mother and stepfather do admit that he was
there daily for breakfast and dinner. The girls and John report he was living
in the home during that period, sleeping in his bedroom (which is right next to
the girls). Mother and stepfather admit knowing that the agency directed them
several times to not allow him around the girls at any time.
