Description

Below is the scenario for Application Assignment 2 (Week 5).
Greetings,
Each of you should have received through course email a scenario for
this week’s Application Assignment. The assignment requires:
1. A completed planning document for each message (attached
below next to my signature).
2. The creation of two messages as indicated in the course email.
3. An explanation of the application using either the balloon
function of Word or a second page with a written explanation of
the application.
Received email from DVD.
Scenario 4
Your business has been running for 9 months when several incidents involving liability occur.
Although you carry insurance, the incidents have repercussions for the future success of the business
particularly because some members of the local business community and the community at large have
been expressing concerns about the business since its inception. The specific case involves the injury
of three customers, i.e. purchasers of the product or partakers in the service. The injuries may have
resulted from the failure of the product or service, those who provide the service, or the nature of the
service. The determination of fault is yet to be determined. Those who have been against the business
are communicating frequently through blogs on community web sites, in local papers, and in emails.
Due to the many blogs, local community press coverage, emails, and phone calls (voicemail
messages), you decide to address the issue. You have 20 employees who need to be informed.
?
?
Write a blog in response to those complaining about the injuries.
Write a press release for the local paper.
Communication Strategy Plan
Planning a message is essential to creating effective messages! Before creating your
message develop your Communication Strategy Plan by answering the following
questions in detail. Be sure to apply specific material from the text.
1. What is my purpose for communicating? What am I intending to achieve? What is my
intended outcome or outcomes?
2. Who is my audience or audiences? (You may be communicating with several distinct
audiences at one time.) How are members of my audience(s) the same? How are they
different? How might their goals be the same or different?
3. How will I adapt to the audience? Be sure to identify how you will adapt to each segment of
the audience or each type of audience (e.g., customers vs. employees). How will I make my
message relevant to them? What potential barriers exist, and how will I attempt to overcome
them? (For example, what strategies for persuading might I use?)
4. What is my thesis (main idea of the entire message)? How does your thesis relate to my
purpose and the audience(s)?
5. Given my purpose, the audience(s), and the content, how will I structure the message?
6. What tone will I use? Why?
