Over the past summer I worked for Spectrum as a sales representative and I’ve experienced a couple situations in which the informal group norms put me in a role conflicts with formal organization standards (Newstrom, 2015). When I first got there we were all trained in about a group of 6 who were all new employees and we were all taught the same way. As the job went along I learned my own way to make sales that was not the way we were taught and I got in trouble for it, but after a while they told me I could sell stuff in my own fashion and my coworkers saw my success and wanted to learn the way I did it so I taught them. My managers knew about this and trusted me that I would help everyone else get sells because I have had a winning formula for creating sales. Some conflicts did begin to rise as people would begin to be lazy with their approach and this would cause many complaints and it got to a point where everyone had to follow the protocol of selling so that everyone was doing it in a uniform way. I found this being a problem for me as I was not able to sell the way I was comfortable with and this caused my sales rating to go down so I would ask my managers could I continue to sale the way I was used to and this lead to my sales jumping back up. I would consider me an informal leader because within my group of coworkers that came in with me they would always ask for my advice on how to to things and I was respected as my methods worked.
