Goals

Goal: Get a B or better in all my classes this semester.
This goal is specific because I have a specific grade or better that I want to
achieve. The grade is also the measurable part of the goal. I can see if I got higher,
lower, or a B. This is attainable because I know my skill levels. I have gotten very
good grades my first year of college, but this semester I took a full 18 credits. This
made me lower my expectations because I have a lot more to juggle. It is results
oriented because I am trying to achieve something. The target dates are when the
classes end. There are many due dates before that, but the final day of classes will
be when I know whether I achieved it or not.
Goal 2: Find roommates and an apartment off campus by the end of the summer.
This goal is specific because I know that I want an apartment, not a house or
something else. The goal is measurable because I will either have gotten it or will
not have gotten it. The goal is attainable because I already know some people
looking for apartments and I have a good knowledge of the area and have the
funds to get an apartment. It is results oriented because I am trying to get
something. The target date is by the end of summer, or the start of the next
semester, giving me a good amount of time making it more attainable while
holding me accountable.

Goal 1: Get a new job
Having no source of income can be rough as a college student. My specific goal
will be to get a job as a delivery driver for Doordash or Grubhub once spring starts
to set in and winter lets up. I want to aim for making enough to cover rent in the
first week of employment. There are many places I could work, but I think it’d be
nice to give delivery for mobile apps a try due to the amazing flexibility that they
allow in your schedule.
Goal 2: Workout
Over the course of the pandemic I have let my laziness get the better of me. It’s
been about a year since I’ve done any working out. My specific goal for this will be
to complete my workout routine every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Then, once it’s a reasonable temperature outside I will go for a 2 mile run every
Wednesday and Saturday. The result of this will be difficult to measure accurately,
but I’ll shoot for being able to complete a 2 mile run without having to walk or
stop as my first goal marking since I’m basically starting from scratch it’s been so
long.

Why is planning important?
How does planning fit with the other management functions?
Planning

Planning is one of the four primary functions of management. It helps to provide
direction, goals, and ensure efficiency in business operations. Planning is
important to all organizations that wish to meet goals.
The other three functions of management, organizing, leading, and controlling, can
technically be performed without planning, but the results will be sporadic in
performance standards. Spontaneity in business decisions only works for a short
time. For long term success, planning is needed for a manager to organize
employees, lead/motivate employees to perform well, and to have a standard by
which to compare results to control processes.
Why Plan?

Planning is important because it helps people stay focused and on task. Planning also
helps with time management/ efficiently. For example, when I go traveling I like to plan
activities so once I get there, I’m not wasting my time figuring out what to do. Planning
fits with other management functions because you have to plan when attempting to reach
goals. You also need alternative plans if your original plans don’t go they way you or
your company thought. Some other management functions related to planning are short-
term and long-term plans of a company. This is important because a company needs
plans to achieve their goals and continue to grow. Lastly, even daily and weekly plans are
important as well. Without an agenda, workers don’t have any idea of what they should
be doing and can make for a chaotic and unproductive week.
