The ClientScott is a single Caucasian male, 31 years old, who left school in the 10th grade. He was recently released from prison after serving a 10-year sentence for a felony drug charge. Because he committed his offense so early in life, he has no work history.Diverse PopulationsThis week Scott shares that he is really not sure how he is going to make it outside of prison. He shares his current struggle with locating affordable housing. Due to background checks and his lack of work history, he has had to remain at the halfway house, even though he has met the requirements for full release. He explains that he cannot live at the halfway house any longer because it reminds him of his childhood. When questioned, Scott shares that he lived with his mother off and on in a domestic violence shelter to escape his father. When Scott was in 10th grade, his mother reunited again with his father. Suddenly, Scott looks solemn and states, ?Good things like this just don?t happen to someone like me.?Strategy and InterventionTo begin today?s session, Scott shares that he met with the representative for the non-profit agency to begin the process of obtaining employment with a small business dedicated to the hiring of former felons. Scott shares that when the representative asked him what types of jobs he might pursue, Scott did not know how to answer. While incarcerated, Scott obtained an institution work assignment in the cafeteria. He did not enjoy food preparation, but he made strong friendships with the other men who worked there because they were committed to ?getting out.? Scott also struggles identifying activities that he enjoys doing for fun. He shrugs and explains he has never had options.ConclusionScott has completed two interviews with prospective employees.
