COUN – 6723- Week 1 Discussion
Post an explanation of what it means to you to be a culturally competent counselor and the importance of being culturally competent in your practice. Then, using a Likert scale ranging from 1 to 10, with 1 being extremely low and 10 being extremely high, indicate where you currently assess your levels of (a) cultural self-awareness, (b) knowledge, and (c) skills. Be sure you are using the definitions that Sue and Sue (2016) provide for each area (Chapter 2 starting with page 56). You need to rate each of the 3 areas: a rating for self-awareness, a rating for knowledge and a rating for skills. Support each rating with a statement of why you selected the level you did. Then, finally explain the training you will need to become culturally competent as a counselor.
