There will be a required paper for this course that requires students to apply crime theories to criminal behavior.
First, students should choose a criminal and his or her criminal behavior. This can be a well-known criminal
(e.g., Jeffrey Dahmer, Aileen Wuornos, etc.) or a lesser-known individual for whom you have information
about the crime(s) he or she committed. Be sure to identify a case that provides plenty of information about the
offender’s background because you will be applying the psychological models discussed in class to the criminal
behavior. You will need to choose a solved crime and use theory and research to explain criminal behavior. You
should not choose an unsolved crime and profile a likely suspect. Once you choose a criminal and research
everything you can find on that person, you will then apply the theories of criminal behavior that we have
discussed in class to explain the individual’s behavior.
The paper should:
(1) Provide relevant background information on the individual (developmental/family history, etc.)
(2) Provide relevant information regarding their crime(s)
(3) Provide a discussion using theory/research that explains the onset/development of antisocial behavior and
their specific criminal behavior?this section should be the bulk of the paper and include enough information
about the basic tenants of the theory you have chosen.
(4) Include at least five references.
The references you choose should be primary research literature and cannot include non-scholarly sources. You
may use non-scholarly sources (e.g. Wikipedia) to obtain general information about the crime or criminal, but
this is not counted as one of your five references and cannot be used as supporting evidence for your argument.
Your paper and citations should be in American Psychological Association (APA) format.
I expect the papers to include a Title page and Reference page, be
no less than five
pages
and no more than eight pages in length (typed, double-spaced, one-inch margins all around, Times New Romans, 12-point font).

The title page and reference page are not included in your overall page count. Points will be deducted for
spelling/grammar errors and papers that do not apply the required formatting.
