5 pages, double-spaced in a standard font

For this critical essay, you may choose to analyze the lyric aspects of any piece of literature we have read for class so far, with a particular focus on the ways that poets/writers identify themselves through their work. If you wish to compare/contrast it with something you have read on your own, that would be an excellent way to discuss the literary qualities of the work. You will also analyze one of your own writings (compare/contrast) in relation to the craft topic you choose (image, metaphor, self v. self, lineation, etc). The format should be MLA style with proper citations.

The rubric for critical essays includes four components:

1) completeness of the assignment and proper format, according to instructions;

2) proficiency in written language usage, i.e. spelling, grammar, and punctuation;

3) effective discussion of the specific craft or writing technique under consideration;

4) rhetorical quality of the work as a whole.

The reading that we have read in class: Like Hearing Your Name Called in a Language You Don’t Understand

I have uploaded both mine and the reading we read in class.

The professor said the first 2.5 pages could be a comparison of the reading that we read in class and the rest of the 2.5 pages could be about my reading.
