Background

You’ll be focusing this week on identifying credible and useful sources for your Researched Argument Essay. This discussion will help you establish your credibility for your research topic and identify your research questions and process. Before responding, make sure to read “The Qualities of a Good Research Question,” as well as the other materials in the Week Three module.

Directions for the Discussion Question Response

Begin by briefly explaining the topic you’ve chosen to research this semester. Describe what you thought you knew about the topic, what you assumed, what you imagined, and/or what you have experienced in relation to the topic. The purpose of this is to establish your own credibility by explaining why/how the topic has become important to you.

Next, write three strong research questions related to your topic; then describe your intended research process in first-person narrative style. Explain the types of information you will try to find in order to answer the question, as well as where and how you plan to look for that information. Be as detailed as possible.

Your response to the discussion question should be at least two paragraphs and 250 words. It is due by Thursday, 3/31, at 11:59pm.

?Virtual Classrooms Can Be as Unequal as Real Ones?
The article was written by Kaveh Waddell’s and remains a profound work on the current issues in the education sector. Waddell’s works show how the emerging virtual classes would relieve three distinguished groups in society: the minority, women, and the lower-income households, while results show different awe. The article explores the factors that led to the uneasiness in the real ones still entangle and led to drawbacks of the virtual classroom. The goal of the online classroom was to help the disadvantaged student equal access to education as the other students since it was noted they were missing out on an inability to access some of the materials for physical class. However, the emergence of virtual learning separated and widened the gap between the poor and the affluent students. Very few could afford the facilities and the required basic technological skills on the social network to draw the information and the learning tools necessary for online lessons.
I agree with Waddell’s claims that the virtual classroom’s fundamental nature is unequal to the real ones. Most Americans who have access to the internet lacks the necessary tools to learn still effectively post a barrier in learning. Virtual learning was to give relief to financially challenged learners. The program can only well be accessed by the higher-income students and those who are better educated to be better in the online class. Most of the information that can be accessed online comes from general knowledge. Networking socially from friends, family, and colleagues is said not to be easily accessed by the low-income and average, which may have less access.
The student’s learning is typically influenced by the parent’s nature and level of education. Parents who are exposed to the learning process tend to have a more significant impact on the learning engagement of their children. Furthermore, the exposure to technological advancement also has a more significant influence on the coping of the learner in the new advanced virtual learning. My agree note, not the author get evidenced in supporting the argument that parents play outsize roles in their children’s learning patterns (Waddell np). When the university’s access and enrollment are considered, the majority enrolled to have either if the parents have a bachelor’s degree. The parent’s income affects the learner’s ability to access the virtual lessons as the authors says lower-income families (Waddell np) were less likely to use the internet in finding materials for learning their kids or find information on helping them in school. Individuals spending time supporting their children will always follow Maslow’s hierarchy, getting their students to do well in school. Therefore, they are never interested in giving fun tools to learning.
However, I’m afraid I must disagree with the author on the view that many students fail to succeed in virtual education due to a lack of the necessary information despite having all the resources. With the computers and other necessities to virtual learning, one can quickly get guidelines on how to go and get learning tools and the correct information. The author claims that some are afraid of their computers from being invoked with malware viruses (Waddell np). The failing of the virtual classes should not be viewed from the perspective of the learner’s inability but the low income of access the tools and the resources from their parents. And therefore, the policymakers on education should develop a way of reaching low-income parents.
