Requirements and guidelines
Before you start the paper write descriptive abstract of 150-250 words max; briefly explains the
background, purpose, and objective of the paper.
Write 4.5-5 pages max (excluding the abstract page and references page) on a controversial topic: Police
Use of Force, single-spaced, 12-point font, with one-inch margins all around. Must follow the
requirements the guideline I provided below:
Background/explanation of the topic you are writing on, but I expect for the paper to focus primarily of
analysis of this issue, including but not limited to recommendations for policy changes to ameliorate the
current state of affairs. Your viewpoints on the topic. What would you like to see changed in the future?
How do you propose we make these changes?

and nature of the topic with reference to existing literature.
Analysis of this issue that presents points and evidence to support them, including but not limited
to recommendations for policy changes to ameliorate the current state of affairs. Your viewpoints
on the topic. What would you like to see changed in the future? How do you propose we make
these changes?
Quality:
Work should be well written with clear, challenging, original ideas supported with convincing, logical
arguments, including relevant counterarguments and refutations relying on enough appropriate
evidence. Well organized, logical, and demonstrates a high-level command of writing mechanics. Work
should be of outstanding quality in ideas and presentation.
