This assignment requires students to examine a policy within the agency where they are completing their
internship. This is a final project therefore it must be detailed and comprehensive using examples to
support the analysis. To assist you with your analysis, pay close attention to the following components and attempt to answer the following questions:

Policy’s Effectiveness 1page
How effective is the policy? To what extent does the policy accomplish its goals. What are the outcomes of the policy? How well does the policy’s program implementation achieve its stated goals?

Policy’s Efficiency 1 page
How efficient is the policy? Explore whether a policy and its implementation through a program are economical. To what extent does the policy address the problem or issue it is intended to address with the least expenditure of time, effort, and money?

Policy’s Ethicality 1 page
Is the policy ethically sound? To what extent does the policy and the program implement and respect people’s rights to dignity, confidentiality, and self –determination? Is the policy honest and straightforward in its stated intent? Do people who might be affected by the policy clearly understand it and its implications? Does it concur with current legal requirements?

Evaluation of the Policy 1 page
What does evaluation of potential alternative policies reveal? To what extent does the policy under examination propose the best way to address the issue or solve the problem? Are there other more effective, efficient, and ethical policy approaches?

Recommendation/s 1 page
What recommendations can be established for positive changes? How can the current policy be amended so that it becomes more effective, efficient, and ethically sound? Or should the policy be eradicated and a new one developed to take its place?

Grand Bahama Children’s Home (GBCH) Sickness Management Policy
All staff will receive a copy of the GBCH newly issued Leave of Request Form to be completed and submitted to Administration along with a medical certificate.

When a member of staff becomes ill and is unable to attend work they need to phone the office or the most senior member on duty and inform them they are unable to attend work due to sickness. This call must be made at least two hours in advance to allow for the shift to be properly covered.

The member of staff needs to report why they are sick and when they intend to return to work if on doctors’ orders to be absent from work more than a day. Staff must keep in touch with Administration regularly throughout their sickness period.

A.Employees eligible for 7 sick days leave per year at regular pay. Supervisors and Management are entitled to 10 sick days.
Employees are required to present a copy of their National Insurance Board (NIB) benefits.
B. Payment of sick leave is subjected to the following conditions:
1.Sickness shall be subject to certification by a licensed Medical Practitioner (MP).
Employer reserve the right to require an employee to submit to an independent MP appointed and paid for by The Home (GBCH).
2.An employee shall not be required to provide a Doctor’s certificate until 2 consecutive days of illness
C. When an employee is receiving any sick benefits during periods:-
D. GBCH will not pay sick benefits, covered by the NIB.
E. Law of the Government of The Bahamas requires; deductions and payments from each employee’s salary pay period, will be made to NIB Sickness Benefit.

***(Sickness Benefit is a payment made weekly to eligible in- sured persons who are temporarily unable to work and so lose employment income because of illness. It is paid at a weekly rate of 60 percent of your average weekly insur- able wage or income for the period in which your qualify- ing conditions were satisfied.
