Compare Contrast Essay Assignment
DIRECTIONS: Watch the video below discussion Technology versus Face to Face
Communication. Using this video as a starting point, compose a comparison/contrast essay
of 400-500 words comparing and contrasting the differences between how you communicate
through technology and how you communicate face-to-face. Pay attention to the different forms
of communication: verbal, non-verbal, and written. Remember to use the point-by-point
structure.
Essay should include the following:
Format
1. MLA heading and headers
2. Double-spaced
3. Times New Roman or Calibri style font
4. Size 12 font
Title
1. Creative
2. Relevant to the topic
Introduction
1. Begin with an engaging hook line.
2. Provide some background on the two subjects. Include what they are and your own
experience with them.
3. End the paragraph with a one sentence thesis statement that contrasts the two subjects
and specifically states how the subjects are different.
Body
1. Organize your body paragraphs by either your subjects or your thesis points. (It really
doesn’t matter so long as you stick with one sort of organizational method.)
2. Each body paragraph should have a topic sentence that supports one part of the thesis
statement.
3. Each body paragraph should include enough support (examples, anecdotes, etc.) to
illustrate how your subjects contrast.
4. Each body paragraph should include transitional words to logically move from one
point to another.
Conclusion
1. Summarize your essay.
2. State how your two subjects are similar.
3. End your essay with commentary on your topic (such as which subject you prefer) that
closes your essay naturally.

1. Use Standard English Grammar, spell your words correctly, and punctuate correctly.
