The process for implementing a EHR . does follow a step-by-step process the process starts off the following: you must select a team then you must look at what you need or what is required from your vendor, Send out your RFI. To potential vendors. Get the RFI vendors to return and thin the herd. Go to demonstration to help narrow the process then select your vendor and negotiate a contract. Finally, start planning your go live and begin planning your educational plan your staff will need to for the go-live (beeson 2020)

I can agree with most of this process but with a few small adaptations from real-life examples. If you’re going to pick a team do it carefully. A good team will sustain the project when it gets tough. Consider every aspect of what you need it?s the small details that make a big impact. Narrowing the vendors is a good aspect of the plan, when choosing the vendors go to a demonstration see how it goes in action, and find what looks and works well. Get a consultant for negotiations. Finally, put a major focus on the education process without an end-user who understands what they are doing failure will occur. I find the biggest challenges with implementation is educating the end-user. A failure here can create a failure in the system education which will cause revenue loss

  7. Selection: The vendor is selected, and the process moves forward to implementing of product

1. Employee Resistance: Often people have a hard time accepting change, especially in the health care work environment. There is resistance from the clinical and support staff all the way up to the board members and stakeholders.

2. Lost productivity and lack of full implementation: When implementing a new EHR system, expect a reduction in staff productivity, the number of patients seen, and workflow. The organization needs to prepare for potential overtime pay and the need for additional health care staff support.

3. Data Migration: Migrating existing data to a new EHR is time-consuming and not much interesting, it contains private and sensitive information that needs to be accurately migrated to ensure continued patient care (Vant, 2019).

Electronic health record (EHR) implementation refers to integrating the EHR software and components into the workflow of an organization structure such as hospitals. It is important to plan for the implementation process so as to minimize errors (Aguirre et al, 2019). The implementation process requires a multidisciplinary approach in preparing for the new system and for easy adaptation to ensure benefit to the patients and physician.

There are steps taken in implementing the electronic health record system. First select the team involved as it requires a multidisciplinary approach (Aguirre et al, 2019). This can include the nurses, medical assistants, receptionists, and administration staff. The next step is to prepare the software by conducting a risk assessment to ensure security is achieved. Then find suitable hardware such as laptops for the particular system. It is necessary to choose hardware and software that is favorable to the patient treatment room layout. The next thing would be to transfer the data files from the old record-keeping data files to the new EHR system. The next step is to develop procedures for backup in case the system is down. The final step is to conduct continuous training for individuals using the system as regular system updates can occur.

Challenges faced by the health care system when implementing EHR

Implementing EHR can be difficult as it requires significant resources and staff support who understand the system. The health care system needs to train staff about the system. It is therefore an expensive and time-consuming process. Ensuring the safety of the software may pose a great challenge due to the interconnected networks in sharing patient information. (Sittig et al, 2020) It is therefore a challenge to ensure seamless flow of patient information while maintaining security. Additionally, it requires one to follow the work plan schedule strictly so as to ensure all phases are well implemented. A proper plan ensures such challenges are avoided
