view of ethics and spirituality. Postmodernism rejects universal spiritual and moral values and

accepts that all values are relative. According to Christianity, God exists and spirituality explains

the view of God (Grand Canyon University (Ed.), 2020). Christians believe that God provides

everything including the wisdom of judging what is right and wrong. Christians believe that

patients should be treated well and protected from abuse or mistreatment because they were

created in the image and likeness of God. Christians are guided by the bible which explains the

purpose of life and how people should live with each other. The bible explains contains the truth

which Christians must reflect in everything they do. Therefore, spirituality guides Christians in

following God’s word and ways. Thus spirituality assumes a symbolic and theological function.

According to Christianity, ethics is based on God’s word (Grand Canyon University (Ed.),

2020). Decision-making is guided by the bible, and it must conform to God’s instructions.

In postmodernism, the idea of involving God in decision-making does not exist.

Postmodern relativism believes that conflicting ethical opinions may be right or wrong. They do

not base their judgment on anything, there is no absolute truth to what is right or wrong. This

means that in postmodernism, there is no wrong decision or opinion and an opinion should be

disregarded because of its contradictory nature. Postmodern relativism’s perspective on

spirituality and ethics is helpful in health because it accepts different views and therefore

promotes multicultural care and collaboration among healthcare professionals.
