I start: “Eugenics in US: The Hidden History”
Eugenics first appeared in American history at the end of
the 19th century, through marriage laws. In 1896,
Connecticut made it ilegal for people with epilepsy or
“feeble-minded” to get married. In 1903, The “American
Breeder’s Association was created to study eugenics. John H
Kelloggs (yes, cereals) organized in 1911 the “Race
Betterment Foundation”, which hold national conferences
on eugencis in 1014, 1915 and 1928. Prominent citizens and
scientists across the nation joined the caused, establishing
the “Eugenic Record Office”, to track families and their
genetic traits, claiming “unfit” many immigrants, minorities
and poor. It is estimated that around 70,000 Americans were
sterilized in between 1920-1970.
Choose a genetic related topic you want to learn more this
semester and submit your 3 sources of reference here. You
will use these sources to write a report due on week 8
You can look over your genetic ebook to get ideas.
Make sure you choose peer-review scientific articles
published in a Scientific Journal, not just news or articles
published in popular magazines. Ask your classmates or me
for help if you need!
Try to find articles that are based on experiments, not
surveys or metanalysis or reviews.
And check previous posts to see if the same article has been
already choosen! First one to post gets priority! 🙂
