Purpose:

First, the purpose is to inform about a specific problem related to a workplace issue within a discipline. Then your purpose is to persuade your readers that your primary solution is the most effective and practical through the remaining sections of your proposal.

Audience:

Your audience will be a professional committee of individuals who work at (insert your choice business/organization/entity here). South Piedmont Community College cannot be your focal business for this assignment. You will need to consider how to explain everything for an audience that may only understand some of the details.

Genre:

This proposal will contain a problem section, secondary solution, primary solution, and implementation. Those sections will work as outlined below. More insight can be found in Chapter 20 Proposals and the Proposal Essay Video in Moodle.

Problem- What is the problem? How does this problem affect others and why does it matter?

Secondary Solution- What is a possible secondary solution to the problem? What are the benefits of that solution? What are the flaws of that solution?

Primary Solution- What is the best solution to this problem? What are the benefits of that solution? What are the flaws of that solution? How could those flaws be addressed (or why are they not as bad)?

Implementation- What are the steps for carrying out the primary solution? What are the costs and timeline factors of the solution?

Because this is more of a professional genre, you will apply all of the following writing conventions as you create your proposal:

Use APA style

Paraphrase more than quote

Use headings to organize information

Refrain from offensive language based on race, gender, sexual orientation, etc.

Minimum Requirements:

5-6 pages

1400 word count minimum (from start of introduction to end of conclusion paragraph)

APA style only, Times New Roman 12pt font, double-spaced

5-10 sources (interview sources are encouraged and sources should be credible)

Your topic cannot originate from in-class readings or practice assignments

Deadlines:

Instructor Feedback (optional draft): The instructor will review your draft ahead of time via email by request (no later than a week before the final draft due date).
