3. (50 Points) (Milton F. Lunch Ethics Contest): Two key ethical issues and one open-ended issue are
presented below. You are to select one and develop an essay submission (650-1000 words) that expresses
your views and demonstrates an understanding of the ethical issues involved. The NSPE Code of Ethics and
previous NSPE Board of Ethical Review opinions (see BER Case Search Database) must be cited in the
submission

Pay attention to the following:
1. Quality of your report (Clarity, composition, expression, etc. are important)
2. Demonstration of understanding the implications concerning ethical or unethical behavior.
3. Comprehensive analysis and arguments supporting your conclusions. (This may include new thoughts or
other expressions about engineering ethics and professional practice.)
Ethical Issue #3 (Open-Ended): The Future of Professional Engineering – What is the most daunting ethical
challenge currently facing the engineering profession? Are you optimistic or pessimistic that the engineering
profession is up to the challenge? What steps will be necessary for the engineering profession and broader
