Music has played an important role in religious worship, social life, and entertainment for millennia. In this discussion you’ll compare and contrast music of the Middle Ages or Renaissance with music of today.
Tasks:
First, choose and identify a piece of music composed during the Middle Ages or Renaissance and describe it. Embed a video link if available.
Second, choose and identify a piece of music with a similar function (be it worship or entertainment) from the present day and describe it. Embed a video link if available.
Identify and discuss at least one similarity and one difference between the two musical compositions you described. In your descriptions of each piece of music, make sure you write about at least two fundamental elements of music (melody, rhythm, texture, harmony, form), using key terms you’ve learned so far in the course. When you use these musical terms put them in bold.
Finally, after your initial post, respond substantively and respectfully to the posts of at least 2 of your peers. Your responses may be along any of the following lines:
Response: an answer to a discussion topic question or to a previous post
Comment: a meta-discussion statement, or in other words, an observation regarding the content or characteristics of the discussion itself.
Query: asking one or more relevant questions of your peer to better understand their comparison/contrast argument.
Clarify: explain or elaborate upon a previously posted response (either the poster’s or another student’s).
