Description

I have this discussion forum due by 12:00 tonight (I forgot) where i need to make an initial post. It won’t take too much time. Maybe 10 minutes tops. Here’s the prompt:

Come up with an example involving at least two of Newton’s three laws of motion. Describe in detail the forces involved, the motion of the object, and how Newton’s laws of motion were involved.

Here’s an example of somebody else’s answer:

Newton’s first law of motion states that an object continues in a state of rest or of uniform speed in a straight line unless acted on by a nonzero net force. My example of this would be when you kick a pebble while you’re walking. Before you kick it, the pebble is in a state of rest. The force of your kick will be the nonzero net force and the pebble will move in a straight line somewhere in front of you. Then gravity will bring it back to the ground and it will resume being in a state of rest.

Newton’s second law of motion states that the acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the net force acting on the object, is in the direction of the net force, and is inversely proportional to the mass of the object. My example of this would be when you are pushing a shopping cart. When your shopping cart only has a few items in it, it is very easy to start pushing, change direction, and stop. Once your cart starts getting full, you have to use more force in order to get it to start moving and to stop it.
