Please respond to one of the following prompts. The paper should be at least 1500 words.
1) Feminist sociologist Maria Mies writes that in the late 1960s feminists began to study womens history, because this history had largely been erased in all countries. This new womens history was called her-story. I wanted to our students to find out [ ] the her-story of their mothers and grandmothers (ATTACHED Mies 2014:xviii from – Mies (2014[1986]), Patriarchy and Accumulation on a World Scale, preface). For this prompt, please conduct an interview with your mother, grandmother, or another woman in your community who has been important in your life. What is her story of growing up, what gender roles did she experience, learn, or, perhaps, resist? What kinds of work and economic contributions to the family were expected of her? What is her perspective on where we are today in terms of womens rights and equality? Please try to engage your reader with a good thesis statement and narrative structure.
Rubrics for essay:
40%: does the essay have a well-crafted thesis statement, with detailed examples coherently speaking to/supporting the argument? Or is it merely an incoherent summary of examples?
40%: comprehension of the examples, arguments, etc., cited in the paper
20%: is the essay clearly written and are sources cited? Has it been spell-checked? Is it sloppy(sentence fragments? Incorrect grammar, capitalization, etc.?)
