considerations in your work with the client. Give examples and support your choices with scholarly
sources.
Counselor Identity

COU 645 Week Four Short Paper Guidelines and Rubric
Cultural Identity Elements
Overview: In this assignment, you will assess a case for significant cultural identity elements related to sexuality. Give consideration to how the client?s
background, family dynamics, traditions, thoughts, feelings, and values or beliefs help inform perceptions of the problems he or she presents when seeking
counseling. To prepare, review Section II of the Biopsychosocial Assessment document for the final project. This week?s case study will help prepare you to
assess the role of cultural identity in the case study for your final project.
Assess the following case example for significant cultural identity elements related to sexuality:
Destiny is a 14-year-old white adolescent. Both of her parents are deceased and she lives with her paternal grandmother, a 68-year-old conservative Christian
woman who was married to her husband for 50 years before his death. Destiny and her grandmother reside in a rural area in low socioeconomic conditions.
Destiny was referred to counseling by her grandmother who reports being worried about Destiny because she has been withdrawing and spending an excessive
amount of time in her room.
During intake, Destiny shares that she is terrified of ?getting in trouble.? She is not allowed to date but has been secretly seeing a boy from school, and they have
had sex on two occasions. She is terrified of being pregnant and believes that her grandmother will ?disown? her if she finds out.
Prompt: Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:
