Community Resources: Mr. Jue
Mr. Jue is a single, unemployed 25-year-old Asian American with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder. He has no history of substance abuse, but did participate indirectly with the selling of drugs through “gang life.”  Mr. Jue was convicted of aggravated assault when he was 18 and spent 5 years in prison. While incarcerated, he received his GED and worked in the prison kitchen. Currently he is on parole, and if completed successfully, he will be a free man in 3 years. After meeting with his parole officer, Mr. Jue was directed to your community counseling center. During the intake session, he expressed an interest in obtaining formal vocational training in the food service sector. This is his first attempt at social reintegration. He disclosed that he has tried in the past to remove himself from all gang affiliations without success. Mr. Jue’s goals are to stay out of prison and find a full-time job.
Consider that Mr. Jue lives in the same community in which you live and will practice. Perform a community/environmental scan of what resources exist in your own community that potentially could be helpful with Mr. Jue’s case. Take note if there are any gaps in needed or desired resources.
