Summary- (label your sections. Or at least separate them! Also, this should be at LEAST
? page. Should be a summary of the article. No opinions yet.)
On Tuesday, September 12, the White House announced, through Press Secretary
Sarah Huckabee Sanders, that the Justice Department should look closer at charging James
Comey, the former FBI director for leaking classified information. The FBI Director was fired by
President Trump earlier this year. Earlier in the week, former chief strategist Steve Bannon was
on ?60 Minutes? saying that firing Comey was a mistake. Not only a mistake, but the biggest
mistake in ?modern political history.?
Sanders confirmed that what the president did was the right move. However, she said it
was not the role of the President to prosecute Comey. She said that it was the job of the Justice
Department to investigate. She affirmed that she thought this was something that the Justice
Department should look into for sure. She implied that she felt that Comey had broken the law
as the Director of the FBI. Comey has been accused by Trump of leaking classified information
to a friend. This classified information would have come from conversations between Trump
and Comey.
According to the article, Comey has also said that Trump asked him to investigate former
national security advisor, Michael Flynn for lying to the Vice President. Flynn has since been
fired.
Analysis: (label your sections. Or at least separate them! Also, this should be at LEAST
? page. This is where you connect the article to THIS CLASS. Also relate it to the topic
you chose and listed at the beginning of the assignment. Refer to your book or your
notes if needed. This is the most important part of this assignment, because it is where
you show me what you know about economics.)
This relates to what we have studied in this class when we were looking at the executive
branch. The Justice Department falls under the executive branch, as part of the cabinet. This
relates to the article in two ways. First, Sanders says that the Justice Department needs to
investigate Comey. Second because Comey used to be a part of the Justice Department, as
Economics
the head of the FBI. According to the constitution, the executive branch?s job is to enforce the
laws. This includes laws set forth by Congress and the Constitution. In this case, if Comey did
leak classified information, this could be a case of national security. According to our book, the
head of the justice Department is the attorney general, whose job it would be to charge Comey
with a crime, if one was committed. The Department became official in 1870. No one related to
the president can hold the position of attorney general, so that they are fair and impartial. This
was established after John F. Kennedy appointed his brother Robert in this role.
Evaluation: (label your sections. Or at least separate them! Also, this should be at
LEAST ? page. This is where you explain WHY this article is important. )
This article is important because the American people need to know if there is some kind
of scandal or someone untrustworthy in office. The president felt that the FBI Director was not
doing his job well, so he fired him. Now it is the job of the Justice Department to look deeper
and see if an actual crime was committed. It is also important because as stated, this is now
one of many people who have been fired by the president, or who have quit, lately. This means
that he does not trust some of the people closest to him. This is a problem when a president is
trying to establish his cabinet to help enforce the laws. It also starts to have an impact on how
the public feels about him. When his choices for his appointments fall through, the public starts
to wonder what other bad choices the president might be making. This starts to have the
people lose trust in him. When the people do not trust their leaders, chaos and anarchy
ensues. Hopefully, there will be some stability in the cabinet soon.
Opinion: (label your sections. Or at least separate them! Also, this should be at LEAST
? page. This is where you explain YOUR personal opinion on the topic. )
This is where you explain your opinion. This differs from the Evaluation. The Evaluation is
more about why this is important to the nation as a whole. Your Opinion is how it impacts you
personally. It could be just how it impacts your feelings. I am not writing a sample here,
because it will differ for everyone.

White House Says Justice Department Should Look at Charging Comey By MAGGIE
HABERMAN SEPT. 12, 2017 WASHINGTON ? Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House
press secretary, said on Tuesday that the Justice Department should ?certainly look at? charging
James B. Comey, the F.B.I. director whom President Trump fired, for what she described as
leaks of classified information. Ms. Sanders made the remarks after being asked at the White
House press briefing whether the president was aware that his former chief strategist, Stephen
K. Bannon, had said in an interview on ?60 Minutes? that firing Mr. Comey was the biggest
mistake ?in modern political history.? Ms. Sanders did not answer the question directly, but she
said that Mr. Trump had been proven right in firing Mr. Comey in May. Asked whether Mr.
Comey should be prosecuted, Ms. Sanders replied, ?That?s not the president?s role.? She added,
?That?s the job of the Department of Justice, and something they should certainly look at.? She
would not say whether the White House would like to see such an inquiry. But, she added, ?If
there?s ever a moment where we feel someone?s broken the law, particularly if they?re the head
of the F.B.I., I think that?s something that 9/24/2017 White House Says Justice Department

Trump has accused Mr. Comey of leaking classified information by furnishing memos about his
interactions with the president to a friend, who provided them to a reporter. The friend has said
the information was not classified. Mr. Comey also told a Senate hearing in July that the
president had asked to him to drop a probe into Michael T. Flynn, who was briefly the
president?s national security adviser before he was fired for lying to Vice President Mike Pence
about conversations he had with the Russian ambassador. Mr. Trump has denied he asked Mr.
Comey to do that. Get politics and Washington news updates via Facebook, Twitter and the
