Medial professionals will look to diagnose and
treat people struggling with mental health in a
variety of ways, but there is an obvious focus on
medication type treatment in this field. Only
certain professionals within this field can diagnose
mental health disorders and diseases as they
have received the special training to do
diagnoses. This field will treat in hospitals, clinics,
and offices to help the client recognize their
symptoms, so they can be diagnosed, treated,
and cared for.
Public health model allows for information about
health to get out to the public quickly. One of
their goals include informing the public about
what can cause mental illnesses and ways to
prevent them and where to go for treatment.
Public health model views issues by geography,
types of problems, or specific characteristics
categories.
Human Service model looks to help the
individual balance with their environment.
Mental health meets the human service model
by supporting someone with a mental health
issue by recognizing their strengths. For a
person with depression, their strength might be
that they got out of bed and ate something.
Being able to keep their strengths simple will
allow them to believe that they can keep going
because of the basic things they do.
Homelessness
The medical model can be helpful towards the
homeless as many of the homeless struggle with
mental health disorders. Medical professionals
can also do special clinics for those who are
unable to afford health care can still get the care
that they need. A professional could get the
homeless person the help that they need, so they
can get and keep and job again to reenter housing
of their own.
Public Health model can help groups of people
like the homeless by allowing discussions to
occur of ways to aid these groups of people and
what they need. For example, there might be a
spread of disease through an area and public
health professionals can look for ways to inform
the homeless and get those who have been
affected help with treatment. They could also
look to inform the public about the housing need
in a certain area.
Human service professionals can help the
individuals who are homeless get into housing,
look for a job, get connected with medical
professionals who can help with mental health
issues, and get them enrolled in SNAP or other
programs they might qualify for.
