Steps
1. Choose one of the following businesses:
a. A doggy day care-
b. A fair trade coffee house
C. A brew pube
d. A new haircare line for curly hair
2. Imagine a potential customer of that business (i.e., who needs or wants a service they
offer). Write a sentence or two describing who they are and what problem they are
facing. Keep it brief.
3. Write a list of 10 questions that the customer will want to answer before you make a
decision about buying this service/product. Think about questions that are related to
the business, but also think about questions that might be related to the problem that
the business may solve that they would ask before even knowing of the particular
business. +
EXAMPLE
(In this example, I am using a plumber as a type of business. You may not choose plumber –
choose from the list of four businesses listed above in Step 1.)
Customer: I am a parent who just found my toddler standing in a huge puddle of water in
our only bathroom–our toilet overflowed and I think that she stuffed a toy or two down the
toilet. I have shut off the water valve but don’t know what else to do to fix this problem. 4
Questions:
1. How to fix over flowing toilet? +
2. Who can fix toilet for me?
3. How much do emergency plumbers cost?4
4. How quickly can they be here?-
5. How do I know I can trust this plumber?
6. Is my toddler okay standing in this nasty water? Do I need to do anything to make
sure?
7. How to childproof a toilet?
8. Do I need a new toilet or can this one be saved?
9. How much does installing a second bathroom cost?4
