Question Description

I’m working on a art question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

Please read the instructions carefully. Also i need to responses to other students for each question. The answer should not be long just to paragraphs that is clear and answers all the points mentioned in the questions.

1. Using the criteria in W4D2, what film would you
nominate for our class “great films” list? Why?
2. What is a movie that you LOVE – even if it
contains NONE of the criteria from W4D2! You
might think of that film as a guilty pleasure but not
all art needs to fist to greatness to be enjoyable or
have an impact. Why do you love this movie?

1. Of all musical theatre, do you have any
favorites? Or one you just can’t stand? Why?
2. The theory behind both musicals and
operas is that ?music enhances dramatic
impact.” From your own store of stage or
film knowledge, describe a theatrical
scene where music is being used
deliberately to make a moment more
emotionally effective. What happens in
that moment and how does the music
enhance your response to it?
W4D2
I want you, as a class, to create a list of criteria by
which we can judge films. Then, in the NEXT
discussion thread, you will suggest titles that fill
most, if not all, of these criteria.
Here is mine to start you off
A great film should be one that inspires and affects
other films and works of art, that has stood the test
of time – so let’s limit our potential “great films” to
those that are at least 10 years old.
Add your criteria here – but save actual titles for
the next post. What elements should a great film
have?

1. To be honest, I am not very
educated on musical theatre. I
have never really seen a
musical in person or on a
screen. I know a lot of my
friends have seen some and
they enjoy them. I have heard
of ones like Hamilton and
Wicked being really
entertaining and I’ve heard a
few songs from each. I am not
a huge fan of musicals or plays
because of how long they are.
But I do enjoy the music that
comes with any musicals. I feel
like music in musicals is
different than the music we
listen to on our phones because
it belongs to a story and can be
tied into what you are
watching. I think that is very
interesting
2. I think a lot of music in
theatre is used to make the
scene more dramatic and
emotional. One that I know is
in Hamilton and after
Alexander Hamilton’s death,
everyone gathers to remember
who he was to them. His wife is
the one who gets to preserve
his legacy. I think this is a
really emotional scene because
of the impact Alexander
Hamilton had on each person
whether is was good or bad.
His wife talks about the kids in
her amphanage and come that

A Great film should have
Originality, it should showcase
the personally of the film
maker and what they appeal to.
something like originally can
allow the viewer of the film to
feel closer to the movie or the
film maker themselves.
another piece of criteria to
judge a film that I feel is
important is relatablity, I think
a great film has various aspects
that relate to many different
audiences making it very
diverse in a way and well
rounded. I think an obvious
one is the plot should be
intriguing and should catch the
viewers interests. the plot
should be structured and not
all over the place. lastly I think
pace is good one to go along
with the plot, the development
of the plot will determine if the
viewers understand what is
going on so I think that is very
important

Of all musical theatre, I would
have to say my favorite would
be
opera.
I have never been to
an opera show before but I am
definitely understanding of the
talent of what it takes to sing
like that. What I mose enjoy
about it is that the male and
female’s vocal range is so
different from each other but
can compliment each other at
the same time. The
complimening of their voices
meshing together sound
beautiful. Of all musical
theatre I would say I cannot
stand movie or book
adaptations. The main reason I
do not like them is because it is
usually a poor adaptation of
the source material. I am not
saying they are all bad, they are
just not the type of genre I am
looking for when I am looking
at an adaptation of some kind
of source material. I would
have to say any fight scene in a
movie where the protagonist
gains some kind of courage and
the music kicks in to hype up
the scene is an emotionally
effective enhancement that I
enjoy during fight scenes.

Week 4 D2
A great movie must have a
good plot that can be judge on
originality, creativity,
structure, and the characters
entertainment values. As well
as the effectiveness of the
message and the ability of the
film maker to reach an
audience.

RE: Week 4 D2
Hi Melva!
a
I agree that the message is
super important. I think a lot
of movies that win awards and
score great with critics are ones
that connect with each
audience. It is so interesting to
watch a movie and feel like
you’re a part of it.

This film appeals to me in
certain ways. “The Green
Book,” as it’s known. It tells the
story of a black musician who
wanted to tour the southern
United States. Because it is
based on a genuine story, it
does not feature many special
effects. This film appeals to me
since it depicts a moderately
successful musician’s social
struggles. It happened during a
time when black people faced
severe discrimination.
Although Titanic is already an
award-winning picture
(making it a “great film”),
a
I
would include it on this list of
great films because of its
incredible cinematography.
The picture was created at a
time when computer graphics
and special effects were not as
powerful as they are now.
However, based on the final
product, I would rate the
cinematography as excellent.
